He’s welcome to return as a character in a new Dance Dance Mario game.
All PS3 controllers have accelerometers built-in but almost nobody used motion control after the first year, and it’s usually optional. That’s likely because Sony aren’t aggressively enforcing it on it’s developers like Nintendo.

You’d be punch-drunk after shaking your brain for hours on end, trying to make those infamous game-industry deadlines.
